“Instead, legislators should expand the ability of regulatory agencies to make those determinations. Regulators should be given a strong mandate to make sure that insurance premiums are being calculated fairly and that low-income drivers aren’t getting the short end of the stick. The debate continues about benefits and costs of health insurance. Pundits and consumers alike agree that the comparison of the health insurance mandate to mandatory car insurance is not relevent. Car insurance rates throughout Ohio are declining, giving the state the 11th lowest auto insurance rates in the nation, according to a new study.
For the third consecutive year, state auto insurance rates have declined, according to the 2006/2007 Auto Insurance Database Report announced Wednesday by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
In 2007, the most recent data available, Ohio’s ranking as 11th lowest for auto insurance rates in the nation was an improvement from its ranking of 13th lowest in 2006.
