Orange School Principal Found Guilty of Car Insurance Fraud
An Orange elementary school principal has been convicted of insurance fraud for having her vehicle torched to collect the insurance money, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
A jury found Amanda Wright-Stafford, 52, of Hillside, guilty Friday of third-degree insurance fraud, authorities said. Wright-Stafford, principal of Lincoln Avenue Elementary School, was found not guilty of second-degree aggravated arson and third-degree attempted theft by deception.
Third-degree crimes carry a maximum sentence of five years in state prison, though a judge could sentence her to probation because she has no prior criminal record, authorities said. Essex County Superior Court Judge Stephen J. Bernstein scheduled her sentencing for April 24.
